Where you will be working
We have a small, close to nature, campsite in the Majella National Park, Abruzzo, south-central Italy. Our aim is to preserve and promote this beautiful, and relatively undiscovered, region of Abruzzo through encouraging environmentally conscious travellers with a passion for nature and the great outdoors.
We keep our campsite as natural as possible (no electric hook ups, no marked out plots, no harsh lighting). We encourage friendships and sharing through our communal areas; we have luxury showers, wi-fi and self-catering options in the form of canvas bell tents, an en-suite guest room, and a townhouse in the historic centre of the village. As well as the camping area there is a large sun terrace and communal barn, and we have a small “pick your own” vegetable plot and herb garden. We are only a small campsite so therefore fairly easy to look after. We are in about an acre of land and will only have a maximum of around 40 people on site at any one time.
Abruzzo is relatively undiscovered by tourists, it is beautiful and unmanicured, with many of its people still living by the seasons following the ways of traditional rural life. Our village of Serramonacesca has about 400 inhabitants, a couple of shops, bars and restaurants and is about 3km away. The mountains of Abruzzo are within hiking distance and boast the highest peaks of the Apennines, whilst the glorious Adriatic coastline is only a 30 minute drive and stretches for a wonderful 133km of golden beaches, cliffs and rocky creeks.
The help we need
We are looking for people to help us out in all aspects of the campsite. During the closed season, there is plenty of outdoor work to be done (tree pruning, vegetable garden, general maintenance) and also painting and repairs. When the campsite is open (1 April – 1 November), you will be mainly helping us to keep the communal areas of the campsite clean and tidy. During the summer high season, this will also include cleaning the showers and toilets, meeting and greeting guests, preparing rooms or tents.
In return for your help
Whilst we are unable to give you a wage, we can supply free accommodation in either our matrimonial en-suite guest room, or one of our bell tents, whichever you prefer. Alternatively, if you are travelling in a van and would rather use that we can provide parking space and attached electric. For meals we can provide one main meal a day (usually at lunch time), or if you’d prefer you can cook for yourselves (for which we’d give you a contribution towards food costs) and help yourselves to our vegetable garden. You will, of course, have use of all our facilities, including our small pool

Maximum of 4 hours a day, 5 days a week
What else …
We are in a very rural area where, although we are only a 15 minute walk from the village, the hills are very steep and public transport is limited. Only therefore suitable for the reasonably fit, or those with their own transport (which we recommend if you wish to explore the area). We also have mountain bikes available.
